No added coloring or essentials oils are
used - practically fragrance-free. We
raise the aloe and scrape the leaves to
obtain the gel, rather than buying
commercial gel. Well known for its
healing properties and excellent for
sunburned or sensitive skin.
What can we say? Our best-selling
herbal soap. We use carefully dried
lavender buds and leaves from our herb
garden, and lavender essential oil.
A classic hippy favorite. Native of India.
According to one of our daughters, our
patchouli essential oil is of the best
quality she has ever experienced. Very
earthy fragrance.
We use the flowers and leaves of Roman
Chamomile, a perennial. Chamomile -
Neroli fragrance oil blend. Very relaxing.
A refreshing combination of dried leaves
from our peppermint, spearmint,
pineapple mint and chocolate mint
plants. A touch of spearmint essential oil
has been added. A great favorite at our
street fair and craft show exhibits. As the
bars age, the botanicals get this really
cool amber glow around them. My
husband's favorite.
Well-known for its natural ability to repell
bugs and its slight lemony fragrance,
Citronella is a native of the southern
Asian islands of Sri Lanka and Java. This
is one of the herbs in our container
garden. Great soap to take with you on a
camping or backpacking trip.
We raise White Sage plants and use
Clary Sage essential oil. White Sage is
traditionally used in purifying rites by
drying the leaves and then burning a
few. We grow this plant as an annual on
our Zone 5 farm. Clary Sage is a great
fragrance for relieving stress, and a nice
alternative to the well-known lavender.
One of our favorites!!!
A classic favorite, and an especially
popular Christmas stocking-stuffer.
Much requested by our customers for
sinus relief. Eucalyptus is a native of
Australia and is part of our "container
garden" which makes it easy to move
indoors when temperatures drop.
Ground rose hips from our Rosa Rogusa
old-fashioned roses provide a natural
pumice. Rose fragrance oil, no artificial
colors.
We cheat a little on this one because we
haven't yet been able to keep a tea
plant alive long enough for harvest. Also
an Asian native. We use green tea from
our kitchen cupboard and a really great
fragrance oil. It is my absolute favorite of
all the soaps we make!
Extremely fragrant, tea tree is a native of
Australia. Well-known for its anti-fungal
and anti-bacterial properties and as an
antiseptic. Great soap because of these
qualities.
Jewel weed was traditionally used as an
antidote to having a run-in with poison
ivy. Also known as "touch-me-nots" I can
remember my first father-in-law pinching
the base of the flower to show me how it
would make a popping sound. The plant
usually grows in moist places in our area
of the midwest, and we wild-harvest the
plants from my parents' farm. We are
currently out of stock until this summer.
Lemon balm and lemon verbena with
lemon grass essential oil. Lemon balm is
vigorous grower in our area, and we
over-winter lemon verbena in our
container garden. A hugely popular bar!
OUR HERBAL SOAPS
Another great soap made with herbs
from our garden. Rosemary is often used
for skin problems such as acne or
psorisis. One of the plants in our
container garden, we have successfully
over-wintered in our house. Native of the
Mediterranean area.
